Valentine's Day

Image result for valentine's dayThe history of Valentine's day is a mystery in our knowledge. Although, we do know that February has been celebrated as a month of romance. We do know that Valentine’s day contains  Christian and Roman ancient traditions. There were multiple people back then who were known as St. Valentine. One in particular is the one that supposedly inspired Valentine’s day and it's meaning. This man was a priest in the third century in Rome. During that time the Emperor decided that single men were better soldiers than men with wives and children. So then he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine thought that this was an act of injustice so he would still perform marriages for the young men who wanted to be married. When the emperor found out about this he demanded that Valentine was to be put to death. There are other stories where Valentine was killed for helping Christian’s escape a Roman prison. Another story which i think is the proper story for this holiday is that Valentine was a prisoner himself and he was the first person to send the first “valentine” greeting to a girl who he fell in love with. Before his death he wrote a letter that signed “From your Valentine”, this is an expression we still use today. All of these stories show some sort of romantic figure that inspires the Valentine's day we celebrate today. Valentine’s day as we know it today is a day of love were couples will celebrate their love for each other and show it through physically, spiritually,and/or emotionally. This holiday is placed on February 14th every year.A lot of people do not really know the history about this Holiday being Valentine’s day and that it may or not be based/inspired by an actual person.
