“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”

Thomas Carlyle

Reflection: This statement by Thomas Carlyle is amazing because he says that a man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder which is true and a great analogy comparing a man to a ship. The rudder of the ship is what controls the direction it is heading and it steers to the direction the captain wants to go. We are a ship and the captain but without goals there is no point of sailing out into the sea. An example is if you graduate high school and then you do not have a clue as to what to do then you are exactly like a ship not knowing what to do and where to go. We all need to have goals in order to know which direction we are headed. Thomas Carlyle says, “A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.” We all need to be the ship and the captain in the sea with goals that steers us in the right direction.
Memorial Day Weekend

This memorial day weekend i really did not do much. Mostly stayed home with my family and had a barbecue on Memorial Day and it was really fun and i had a great time. On Sunday i went to church and then i went to the movies and watched pirates of the caribbean which was really good. I also really liked that yesterday we didn't have school which was really good because i got a chance to catch up with any late work that i had and got to relax before heading into the last two weeks of school. Also, on sunday after church i went to knotts berry farm which was really fun and i also had a good time there as well.

“When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.”

Image result for alan paton
Alan Paton

Reflection: This quote by Alan Paton is amazing because he talks about how when an injury has been done to us we can never recover until we forgive. This doesn’t mean physically but spiritually and emotionally because if you pull a muscle on your own there is no one to blame and to forgive. You can be hurt by what someone did to you or said to you that made you hurt on the inside. Therefore, you can only recover from emotional and spiritual pain until you forgive those who hurt you. An example of this is if your father leaves and abandons you and your mother when you were young you can not hold that anger inside as you get older because that will build bitterness and hatred and then you won’t be able to hold it in and you will release all that anger and hurt on somebody who did not do anything to you. That hurt and anger and bitterness can only be healed by forgiving your father. Another example is if there are peers at school who is spreading rumors about you that are not true and people start making fun of you and hurting you emotionally then you cannot just stay hidden and alone and angry at those people you have to forgive them for what they did to you and move on because if you stay angry and build that hatred inside of you because of what they did then you will not live a good happy life instead it will be a life full of hatred, anger, and bitterness which is not good for you or for anybody. Alan Paton says, “ When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.” We must all forgive those who hurt us spiritually and emotionally no matter what for the sake of your life and others that are around you.

“Dare to do right.”

Rex D. Pinegar

Reflection: This quote by Rex D. Pinegar dares us to do right when we need to do right. We need to do right when we need to which is all the time. Doing the right thing all the time is mandatory in life because when you do good and you do the right thing you feel good. An example is if you are dared to smoke something you know is really bad and you should not do it then remember this dare by Rex D. Pinegar and do not smoke what you are being dared to instead do the right thing and leave and do not smoke what they are daring you to smoke. Another example is if someone at school is being bullied or harassed in anyway the you need to go over there and stop the bully and do the right thing by protecting the person that is being bullied and stand your guard against the bully even though it is not your problem. We must always do right because it is the right thing to do and it is our job as people to do the right thing in our lives. Rex D. Pinegar says, “Dare to do right.” We must always apply this to our lives and do what is right when it is needed.

“Dare to stand alone.”

Image result for thomas s monson
Thomas S. Monson

Reflection: This quote by Thomas S. Monson says that we should dare ourselves to stand alone. Standing alone not by isolating ourselves from the whole world but to stand alone for what is right. We as people sometimes tend to stand alone with people that are a really bad influence and instead of standing alone for what is right we decide to stay with those people.  If standing alone for what is right was easy then everyone in the world would be doing it but it's not it is probably one of the hardest thing for someone to do. An example of standing alone is if you are at school and in lunch with some of your friends and then all of a sudden your friends start making dirty jokes or using foul language or doing something that they should not be doing then you need to step away from that group and dare yourself to stand alone. Thomas S. Monson says “Dare to stand alone.” we all at one point in our lives need to make the decision to stand alone when it is needed to do it.

Dan Dierdorf

Reflection: This statement given by Dan Dierdorf states, “If i’ve got correct goals, and if i keep pursuing them the best way i know how, everything else falls into line. If i do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.” This quote is a if then situation which applies to all things in life whether in school or at work or at church or in a sport there will always be an if and then situation. In the quote Dierdorf says that if he does the right thing right then everything else will fall into place meaning that if we set right goals in our life and the right thing to accomplish our goals or do the right thing for anything else then everything else will fall perfectly in your life from doing the right thing. An example of an if and then situation includes if you do your homework for school then you’ll be able to pick up your grade if needed and you will be able to know the material. Another example includes at work if you do not arrive at work on time then you will be penalized by either being fired or in another consequence. Dan also says that if does the right thing then he will succeed which is true for all of the people in this world because if they do the right thing in life and stick to it then they will succeed in many perspectives. The if and then situation works for all situations in life. Dan Dierdorf says “If i’ve got correct goals, and if i keep pursuing them the best way i know how, everything else falls into line. If i do the right thing, I’m going to succeed.”

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”

Image result for theodore roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt

Reflection: This quote by Theodore Roosevelt is remarkable because he says that in any moment of decision meaning whenever you are about to make a choice on something then the best thing you can do at that exact moment is to do the right thing. This helps a lot of people when they ask themselves what should i do in this decision or what choice should i make. An example of making the right decision is if you are at home and you are bored because there is “nothing” to do so then you have a decision to make to either sit down and do nothing or to go do your homework and do the chores that you were assigned to do. At that moment the best thing to do is to do your homework and do the chores that you were told to do. Also maybe even do the chores that were you were not told to do just so you can feel good because when you do good you feel good. Another example is if you see someone being bullied or someone bullying somebody else then you have a decision to make to either stop the bully or to let it happen and be a bystander that saw the whole thing go down. The right thing to do at that moment is to stop the bully or the bullying that is happening because it is the right thing to do. Theodore Roosevelt says, “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.” We all need to learn and apply this quote into our lives when we need to make a decision.

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
Image result for Wilford Woodruff
Wilford Woodruff

Reflection: This quote by Wilford Woodruff is amazing because it teaches us what we can gain from doing what is wrong. What you gain is nothing, when you do something wrong in a moment of your life you never gain anything. An example of not gaining anything when you do something wrong is when you cheat on a test and get a perfect score. You do get a higher score on the test and the class grade but you do feel bad for cheating on the test and for doing the right thing so you did not really gain anything. Another example is if you steal something that was not yours or something that you really wanted but you can not have. You steal what is not yours and then you get what you stole but you will eventually get caught and they will take back what yous stole and then you gain absolutely nothing. We all need to tell ourselves every day that we gain nothing from doing what is wrong but we do gain some things when you do the right thing.

“It’s a great moment when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”

Image result for pam knox
Pam Knox

Reflection: This statement by Pam Knox shows us how to do the right thing at the right time and says at that moment when somebody does something right it's a great moment. It also shows us that when we do the right thing that it will exceed all other things. For example if you received an award for something but it was not rightfully yours then you need to give up that award and return it. At that great moment you will be doing the right thing at the right time. Also another great thing about this quote is that Pam says when someone STEPS UP to do the right thing. We all at one point in our lives need to step up and take responsibility and do the right thing at the right time. So at that moment you will be doing something right at the right time. Pam Knox says “It's a great moment when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.” We all must do the right thing at the right time at one point in our lives and in that moment it will be and feel great.

“I have been asked what i mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another i might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can i get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”

Karl G. Maeser

Reflection:
This quote by Karl G. Maeser says that he may be able to escape a prison with tall walls and high security but he says that if he was placed in a chalk drawn circle that and if he had to give his word to never not cross that he would die before he breaks his word of honor by crossing the circle line. He says that he has been questioned about what he means by ‘word of honor’ and he means that if you say you are going to do something then you do it and stick to your word and if you say that you are not going to do something then you do not do it because you need to keep your word. An example of this is that if you say to someone that you are going to be somewhere at a certain time then you be there at the place you said you would be at the time that you said you were going to be there. Another example is that if you say you will not steal and you see a wallet on top of a car then you leave it where it is and do not steal it because you said that you would not steal and if you take it you break his word and so then you would not be trustworthy anymore and you would feel bad. Karl G. Maeser says “I have been asked what i mean by ‘word of honor’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another i might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can i get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.” We all need to keep our word of honor no matter what.
