“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”

Reflection: This statement by Thomas Carlyle is amazing because he says that a man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder which is true and a great analogy comparing a man to a ship. The rudder of the ship is what controls the direction it is heading and it steers to the direction the captain wants to go. We are a ship and the captain but without goals there is no point of sailing out into the sea. An example is if you graduate high school and then you do not have a clue as to what to do then you are exactly like a ship not knowing what to do and where to go. We all need to have goals in order to know which direction we are headed. Thomas Carlyle says, “A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.” We all need to be the ship and the captain in the sea with goals that steers us in the right direction.
