Reflection: This quote by Alan Paton is amazing because he talks about how when an injury has been done to us we can never recover until we forgive. This doesn’t mean physically but spiritually and emotionally because if you pull a muscle on your own there is no one to blame and to forgive. You can be hurt by what someone did to you or said to you that made you hurt on the inside. Therefore, you can only recover from emotional and spiritual pain until you forgive those who hurt you. An example of this is if your father leaves and abandons you and your mother when you were young you can not hold that anger inside as you get older because that will build bitterness and hatred and then you won’t be able to hold it in and you will release all that anger and hurt on somebody who did not do anything to you. That hurt and anger and bitterness can only be healed by forgiving your father. Another example is if there are peers at school who is spreading rumors about you that are not true and people start making fun of you and hurting you emotionally then you cannot just stay hidden and alone and angry at those people you have to forgive them for what they did to you and move on because if you stay angry and build that hatred inside of you because of what they did then you will not live a good happy life instead it will be a life full of hatred, anger, and bitterness which is not good for you or for anybody. Alan Paton says, “ When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.” We must all forgive those who hurt us spiritually and emotionally no matter what for the sake of your life and others that are around you.
