Saint Patrick was a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. He was known as “The Apostle of Ireland”, he was the primary patron saint of Ireland, along with saints Brigit of Kildare and Columba.Saint Patrick’s full name is Maewyn Succat. When Saint Patrick was 16 he was kidnapped by Irish Pirates from his home in Britain and he was taken asa slave to watch over animals for almost 6 years and escaped and went home to his family. Later in his life he returned to northern and western Ireland and served as a bishop. He later then became a reverend the patron saint of Ireland.  Saint Patrick’s day is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick. He was born 385 A.D. and died in 461 A.D. Ireland describes the annual date of his death a day of solemnity and a holy day of obligation.  It has been said that the original color that was used in St. Patrick’s day was blue but over time it had changed to green because of Ireland’s nickname, “The Emerald Isle”, the green in the Irish flag and the clover that Saint Patrick used when he was teaching about Catholicism.
