Operating Room Technician

Duties and Responsibilities: There are three different types of operating room technician the Scrub Surgical Technologist, Circulating Surgical Technologist, and the Second Assisting Technologist. These three different technicians have different duties and responsibilities in the operating room. The scrub surgical technologist assists a surgeon by handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during a surgical procedure. The Circulating Surgical Technician are needed to obtaining additional supplies, instruments and any equipment that is needed and Second assisting technologists are to help the surgeon and first assisting technologists with various technical tasks during a surgery.

Salary: The annual salary is $45,490.

Education: The education requirements for this career are the following:

• High School Diploma
• Completion of an accredited post secondary surgical technology program

Demand: The demand for this career positions is high because during a surgery the surgeons and doctors need assist in any way possible and the operating room technicians are very good at assisting the surgeons.

Reflection: I would like to be a operating room technician specifically the scrub technologist assistant because i would hold and obtain the tools and instruments that the surgeon or doctor needs during the surgical procedure. This career is really good because you get to see the surgical procedure and learn about all the different types of tools and equipment that is needed. One thing that i really like about this career is that you get to see how the procedure is done and so then you learn and memorize how the doctors and surgeons do the surgery step by step.
